DETROIT, Mich.—Strange as it sounds, Forbes Kennedy became a left wing in the Detroit Red Wings’ latest plans because he gave an impressive showing as a center at training camp Kennedy is a stocky 22-year-old forward who came to Detroit this summer in the big trade that sent Ted Lindsay and Glenn Hall to the Black Hawks. Since he had played center for the Hawks last season. Kennedy checked in as a candidate at that position. It so happened that center was one place where the Wings were heavily stocked. Alex Delvecchio, Norm Ullman and Dutch Reibel—the three regulars last season—all were back. On hand was Guyle Fielder, already named as the new Production Line center. Cornwall Signs Playing Coach
OSHAWA. Ont.—Teams in the Eastern Ontario Senior A Hockey League are getting ready to strut their stuff before their paying customers, and each club is vieing for space to announce their signings. From Cornwall. Ray Miron and his club executives announced the signing of their 1957 playing coach Joe Lepine. Joe is a big defenceman who has plenty of hockey savvy behind him. Lepine succeeds Gerry Plamondon who guided the club last year. Lepine started his hockey in Montreal with the Junior Habs. He spent three years in Junior, then he moved to the Montreal Royals of the Quebec Senior League, where he spent two seasons. In the latter season he was called up by the Buffalo Bisons. No. 6 Returns
DETROIT, Mich.—When the late Larry Aurie retired from Detroit Red Wings, his No. 6 jersey was retired right along with him. This year No. 6 will be back in the Detroit lineup again. Nominated for that illustrious jersey is Gummy Burton, a 21-year-old rookie right wing. He comes to Detroit from the Edmonton farm where he spent one season after leaving the Hamilton junior nursery. Obijibways Get Trial At Chicago
ST. CATHARINES, Ont.—Two genuine Indian puck-sters have shown up here for trials with the Black Hawks as the Chicago squad once again endeavous to acquire the tribal background that the club name has always implied. The pair of center candidates still of junior age were introduced to General Manager Tommy Ivan by Bob Wilson, Chicago’s chief scout for eastern Canada who came across the boys on their Obijibway tribe reservations in northern Ontario this summer. Les Tabobandung, 19, hails from Parry Sound where he played an important role in leading the town’s Junior “C” entry to the Ontario championship last season.
