Player-of-the-Week
When it comes to picking the “Player-Of-The-Week” THE HOCKEY NEWS finds itself in the happy position of saluting the most electrifying performer the game has ever known—(Rocket) Richard. The fabulous Rocket personally took charge of the fifth playoff game against the New York Rangers by scoring his seventh playoff overtime goal at 2:11 to eliminate Phil Watson’s gang from further contention. That set the stage for the opening of the Stanley Cup finals against the Boston Bruins and the Rocket, a 35-year-old veteran including 15 years of National Hockey League play, came up with one of the greatest performances of his brilliant career. Caps Win NB Title Hard Way
FREDERICTON, N. B— Ask the Fredericton Caps and they’ll tell you that the toughest way to win a best-three-out-of-five game series is to drop the first two contests. They know, because they just finished wrapping up the N.B.—P.E.I. senior semi-final playoffs against Charlottetown’s Parkdale Flyers with three back-to-back wins after losing two to the Island crew. In the friendly confines of their home rink the Parkdale outfit grabbed a tight stranglehold on the series with 6-2 and 8-1 victories. Then the Caps bounced back with 8-2 and 6-4 wins in Fredericton’s York Arena to knot the affair. The Caps, by this time, were “up” for the final game of the set and clicked on all cylinders as they routed Parkdale 8-2 in the deciding encounter which was played in the splendid new Lady Beaverbrook…
