Chicks And Aces Hold 3-0 Leads In QHL Series
CHICOUTIMI, Que.— Amid general rejoicing on the three straight triumphs of their beloved Sagueneens over Royals in the playoff semis, fans in these parts were ready to hold a group of hockey writers and broadcasters to certain scorn. Sure, it does look like a bonanza spring with the Sags almost surely heading into the finals for the Thomas O’Connel Memorial Trophy against Quebec Aces, but there a lurking suspicion that many scribes and spielers are mentally unbalanced. Suggested for examination by psychiatrists are 25 representatives of the Fourth Estate, who, in voting for Alt Star teams, and slotting other awards, failed to give due Lonor to Chicoutimi stars. Sagueneens were passed over on the first all star team, though the 1956-57 pollsters gave the call totwo Chicks on the second team. A bigger gripe here is…

Bisons Break For Homes
These Stars Were Chosen As All-Stars BUFFALO, N.Y.— The 1956-57 American Hockey League season is history for the Buffalo Bisons. The Herd, for only the fifth time in 17 seasons, failed to qualify for the post-season action. As the Bisons headed for their homes in various Canadian cities and hamlets they supplied the enquiring reporter with a thumbnail sketch of their summer plans. Sandy Hucul—“I work for the transportation department of Shell Oil Company in Calgary.” Sam Bettio—“I think 1’11 go back to working in the brewers warehouse in Sudbury.” Pete Conacher—“I worked for a stock broker in Toronto last year and may go back to that job.” Don Ward—“Know of any jobs around Sarnia, Ontario? I don’t have one lined up as yet.” Tony Schneider—“I’ll probably do construction work in Regina like I did last summer.” Pete Babando—“To…

Fabulous Fielder’s Carefree Attitude Preventing Him From Jumping to NHL
VANCOUVER, B.C.— In years to come they will tell how Guyle Abner Fielder tore the Western Hockey League into edible slices in the year of 19 and 57—only to repair the rents with the hemstitching or his own improbable deeds. They will tell how he set an all-time all-professinnal scoring record of 33 goals and 89 assists for 122 points. And this will be only part of the story. For if ever a single slender citizen were capable of budging Seattle Americans from last, place in the Coast Division—where they were a year ago—that person escaped notice in pre-season appraisals. And so when Seattle finished first, Fielder had done more than create a lasting personal impression. He had taken the team with him. Normally a scoring machine of Fielder’s tempo is inclined to be an…
