Bears Hit Playoffs Despite Long List Of Crucial Injuries
HERSHEY, Pa.— After missing out on the Calder Cup play-offs for two seasons in a row, the Hershey Bears have qualified for participation in the 1956-57 post-season competition. For freshman coach Frank Mathers, who made the select circle in his first campaign as a mentor, the achievement is most gratifying. Frank made it the hard way overcoming a series of injuries and disappointments, which, at times, seemed almost Insurmountable. In addition to the usual assortment of injuries, which kept key personnel like Arnie Kullman, Bob Solinger and himself sidelined at various stages of the race.
