Topper’s Injury Forces Schmidt To Experiment
BOSTON. Mass.— The injuries to Jerry Toppazzini inflicted by hockey’s self-professed “tough guy” has broken up the Boston Bruins’ most productive forward lin. Toppazzini may be out for the remainder of the season with severe facial injuries received in a game in Detroit in which he was involved with Ted Lindsay. Almost since last October, when they were set up by coach Milt Schmidt, as a unit, Fleming Mackell. Larry Regan and Toppazzini were the Bruins’ heavy duty line. Toppazzini, the 25-year-old right wing, led the Bruins in scoring and, like his linemates, he was a vital member of the team’s penalty-killing detail. The heavyweight of his line at 176 pounds, he was the strongarm man of the trio, the bodychecker in occasional surprise switches from stealth to strength. Dependable Floyd Curry Gets “Night” March 14
MONTREAL, Que.— A soft-spoken, mild-mannered 31-year-old hockey player with friends by the score and not an enemy in the world will be honored by his fans in Montreal on March 14 when the Canadiens clash with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Previously honored by Montreal’s rabid hockey followers were Maurice Richard, Butch Bouchard, Elmer Lach and Kenny Mosdell and of these only the Rocket survives as an active player in the National Hockey League. Bouchard is now president of the Montreal Royals, the Brooklyn-directed farm in the International Baseball League; Lach is coach of the similarly named Royals of the Quebec Hockey League, a Canadian affiliate; and…
NOHA Puck Parade
THE EDDIE REIGLE STORY … fiery little Eddie Reigle, as sharp in a business deal as he is leading a senior hockey team, has his powerful North Bay Trappers well on their way to the NOHA Senior “A” championship. Gateway City fans are wild in their enthusiasm over the work of one of the best all-round and most popular playing-coaches we have ever had in Northern Ontario. Owners Pete Palangio and George Buscemi told me they are highly pleased with the work of Reigle and every player will swear by their highly-respected mentor. Conversely, Eddie tells me he loves North Bay where he has set himself up pretty nicely in business. THE BEST TEAM … there’s little doubt that Eddie has moulded together the finest senior hockey team ever possessed by…
