NOHA Puck Purude

THE DEEP FREEZE … Marilyn Monroe is a big hit in Bus Stop, but don’t talk “Bus Stop” with the Sault Ste. Marie Indians of the NOHA Senior “A” circuit … they were stopped dead five and a half hours in a stalled bus in a driving rain storm about fifty miles out of Sudbury on their way home from a recent road trip … with no heat but with frayed nerves they stuck it out until around 8 a.m. when a wrecker towed the bus to a town ten miles away … it was a harrowing night to say the least, especially when it followed a road trip without a victory for the Indians … I made that road trip with the team and now I know what a…

McIntyre 6th Hawk Sniper To Score Four In One Game

CHICAGO, III.— Jack McIntyre is a happy-go-lucky sort of fellow. There are those who at times have felt he’s a little too carefree, but they steered clear of offering any criticism on the sturdy Black Hawk wingman after Chicago romped to a 6-3 triumph at Toronto November 17. McIntyre won that game all by his lonesome by popping in four of those goals to become only the sixth Chicago skater to better the hat trick by one in the 30-year history of the team. Any critics of his attitude on or off the ice will probably be minding their own business in the future. “There’s nothin’ like it.” Jack beamed afterward in trying to explain his feelings. “I scored a goal for Boston that eliminated Detroit from the playoffs a few years ago…

Larivee Sparks Providence With Spirited Team Play

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Paul Larivee, who until the present season began, was seriously thinking of quitting hockey for a fling in business, is today being heralded as the quiet man who is making lots of noise for the R.I. Reds. Larivee is one of those athletes who does his job well but hardly ever gets the rave noticts of some of his contemporaries. For example, last season Paul got 80 points on 27 goals and 53 assists. For any other American League player this would be considered an outstanding season. But Larivee was flanked by two of the league’s big-name players — Camille Henry and Zellio Toppazzini. “Topper” won the league scoring crown with 113 points and Henry bagged 91 and led the league in goals with 50. Larivee played 26 games for the…

Are Flin Flon Bombers Trying To Buy WJHL Title?

REGINA, Sask.— Are the Flin Flon Bombers attempting to “buy” the Western Junior Hockey championship? Around Regina, there is a feeling that the northerners are trying to do just that. Coach Bobby Kirk’s Bombers burst out with nine wins in their first 10 starts in the Saskatchewan Junior League. But apparently they weren’t satisfied with that fine record for they then announced the acquisition of two more outstanding players. Nhe new additions are Pat Ginnell, one of the best men on last year’s Port Arthur North Stars, western junior finalists, and Barry Beatty, former captain of the St. Boniface junior Canadiens. Ebployment in the mines at Flin Flon is one of the attractions that brings boys like Ginnell and Beatty to Flin Flon. Both of them are working in the mines. For the past…
