Hawks Right Wing Rich Following Off-Season Deals

CHICAGO, III— Faltering on the brink of utter and complete poverty along the starboard side last year, the Black Hawks are now cultivating new hopes for success in the approaching campaign with a sharp situation reversal that now finds the club virtually right wing rich. As early as late last fall General Manager Tommy Ivan and Coach Dick Irvin detected the weakness, but other clubs weren’t interested in any deals of note at this stage of play. The Chihawk leaders could do little more than settle back and do the best possible with the available material. TORONTO, Ont.— Unlike Davey Crockett, Howie Meeker had to wait until he was 31 to bag his first bear. Matter of fact, Howie would gladly have waited a few more years if the pesky bruin hadn’t tried to take Over the Meeker’s summer residence. But when the big fellow insisted on playing games, Meeker attached a flashlight to his gun so he would get a bead on the bear. Mrs. Meeker flashed a larger flashlight on the charging animal, and Howie shot him through the ear with his first shot. The bear weighed 400 pounds and. according to Meeker, was the meanest-looking-animal he’d ever seen. Won’t Have Gan The new Leaf coach wishes the coming NHL campaign could be taken care of as easily as the said bruin. However, he won’t have a…
