ANOTHER ANGLE

(As seen in the Winnipeg Tribune) When they win one. you figure to find Sanctuary behind the door and brace yourself for almost anything. Like a lot of noise, great peels of laughter and perhaps a discordant chorus or two. Then you realize, somewhat abruptly, that they’re pros. They’ve been pros all along. Okay, so they won one. Only Butch Bouchard, now tottering in the vestibule to Valhalla, Maurice…

BOSTON, Mass.— Terry Sawchuk is finishing his first season with the Bruins, and by comparison with his previous seasons in the National league it hasn’t been an overly successful one. In other years Sawchuk and the Detroit Red Wings finished in first place. This year the Bruins will finish a long way from first place. As the backbone of the Red Wings in their glory era, Sawchuk was accorded the highest praise. Some hockey authorities termed him the greatest goal-tender in the history of the game. After his transfer from Detroit to Boston, Sawchuk continued to receive accolades, but as the season progressed and the Bruins failed to hold their early pace, the flow of superlatives in his direction lessened. But if his stature has diminished elsewhere in his first season with the Bruins, it…
