IHL Indianapolis Chiefs Point To Future Despite Dismal Year
INDIANAPOLIS. Ind.— Surprising as it may seem, all is not shrouded in gloom and despair in Indianapolis hockey circles. This despite the fact that the hapless Chiefs are assured of a cellar finish in this, their first year, in the International League. Consider the plight of a club that has won just eight times while losing 42 and has been able to score just over 100 goals over that stretch to about 300 for the opposition. There, in a nutshell, you have the unfortunate case of the Indianapolis sextet. “It’s Tough’’ Still Optimistic Nevertheless, there still is a certain amout of optimism among members of the Chiefs’ official family. Mel Ross, general manager of the team, is confidently looking to the future, as are his two top lieutenants, Johnny Sorrell and Coach Leo Lamoureux. Lamoureux, powerfully—built former National…

SHAWINIGAN FALLS, Que.— The intrinsic value of Gilles Dube and his important contributions to what looms as a second season of magnificent triumph for the Cataracts is now revealed in elaborate mathematics by Paul Lafond. Lafond is a figure filbert who tosses the arithmetic around yo-yo style as a labor of love for the Shawinigan Falls entry in the Quebec Hockey League. Since playing-coach Roger Leger has got back in harness these Cataracts picked up full stride again, after faltering only slightly in mid-January. With or without the great inspiration of Leger circling about in his slow style in the back area, Dube has consistently been forging to the front in the scoring list. But Lafond persists in an analysis to show how important Dube’s contributions always loom to the cause. It is hereby shown…
Whitby Leads Eastern Ont. Senior Loop
OSHAWA, Ont.— Whitby Dun1ops have clinched first place in the Eastern Ontario Senior League standing, and while doing so, have built up a reputation as a high scoring hockey club. On Saturday February 4, some 1,000 fans sat in the Whitby Arena and watched their favourites rack up a 21-5 win over Brockville who were holding down third place in the loop standings. The “Dunnies” have scored a total of 257 goals while the opposition have blinked the light on only 101 occasions. The Whitby club is a well balanced hockey machine and are lead by former Quebec and American Hockey League ace Bus Gagnon, who serves as playing coach. In addition to Gagnon the Dunlops have acquired the services of former Oshawa General and Guelph Biltmore Bob Attersely. Attersely won the Red Tilson…
