Beavers Almost Certain To Retain Top Spot In Atlantic Coast Loop

HALIFAX, N.S.— As Atlantic Coast Hockey League teams plunged into the final fortnight of the long schedule, two titles had just about been decided. Nobody is going to knock Shermie White off the championship scoring perch. The Beavers, who took over from the Amherst Ramblers as pacesetters late in December, have run up a sevengame margin over the Nova Scotia team and the way they’ve been playing the last five or six weeks there are no reasons to expect a major slump. White has just about clinched the scoring championship, with a new record already accomplished. With only nine games to go White has a 15-point lead over linemate Jackie Schmidt and is back in his best form following a layoff with injuries. BOSTON, Mass.— Only a little more than a month ago everybody around here was talking about the Bruins. They were losing most of their games. Now everybody is talking about the Bruins again, but the tenor of the conversation has changed. Lately they’ve been winning most of their games. The big mystery of the middle portion of the National League season was the collapse of the Bruins, what had caused it after a promising start. But there is no such element of mystery in their late-season surge. The reason is evident, in black in white.
