THE FAN FORUM

Defends Pete Dear Sirs,. This letter was prompted by Jack Horrigan’s article in the December 10 th issue of THE HOCKEY NEWS. Recalling last year’s records of several members of the Buffalo Bisons American League team, Mr. Horrigan states that “Babando, while he hit for 20 goals, seldom scored in close games.” Pete Babando has long been a favorite of mine, and I seemed to remember that he did his full share last season, so I checked the statistics. Deflated by a four-game losing streak, Phil and Muzz called a meeting of the minds. Result: Don (Bones) Raleigh and Ivan (The Terrible) Irwin were dispatched to Providence of the American Hockey League and at…

Bears, Cougars Swap Players

HERSHEY, Pa.— The Hershey Bears Bears and Victoria Cougars have exchanged defensemen, the Bears sending Arnott Whitney to Eddie Olson’s club in return to Floyd Hillman, 21-year-old newcomer to pro ranks. Whitney, a three-year veteran, turned pro with Hershey in 1953-54, after a season with New Haven in the Eastern Amateur Hockey League. Hillman, a graduate of the Windsor Spitfires, of the Senior Ontario Hockey Association, was the Western League’s leading “bad” man, having compiled a record of 60 minutes in the penalty box in 21 contests.…
