Kitchener’s Prolific Scoring Line Sets Hottest Pace In Junior Race

GUELPH, Ont— Kitchener’s prolific scoring line of Stan Baluik, Walt Bradley and Willie O’Ree is still the hottest unit in the tight junior “A” race. They’ve racked up 37 points in their first six games…an average of a little better than six a game…and have been the key factor in the Canucks sharp reversal of form. The Canucks, who won only eight games all last year, took five out of their first six starts to move in front early. Their only loss was a crushing 7-1 defeat at the hands of Marlboros in Toronto but they avenged that the same week by defeating the Dukes 5-3 in Kitchener, with a hat trick by O’Ree showing the way. O’Ree, one of the few Negroes to perform in organized hockey, looks like a good bet…

DETROIT, Mich.— The NHL chapter of the A.G.U. better keep a sharp eye on Clarence Campbell and his rules makers. The six puck-scarred members of the A.G.U. (Amalgated Goaltenders Union) offer only routine proposals at their annua) convention. The pay already is good and you can’t beat the hours. So they string along with the same old requests for smaller nets, bigger creases and a law against screen shots. But the way things are going in the league this seasou, the puck catchers soon may find working conditions getting worse instead of better. That’s because the goalies themselves seem to be getting better instead of worse. Look what’s happening. In the first 43 games there were 16 shutouts. Sudden Death Two overtime games were played the past week and both settled in the sudden death overtime period. Edmonton defeated Regina 5-4 Tuesday night in Regina and Winnipeg defeated Regina 3-2 in Winnipeg Friday night. Winning Streak Calgary won all three games they played the past week to extend their winning streak to seven straight games to maintain their two point lead in the Prairie Division. Edmonton retained second place with 20 points.
