Reardon Hits Paydirt, Signs McAvoy To Reds
PROVIDENCE, R.I.— George McAvoy, the outstanding player on the world championship Penticton hockey team of Canada, he reported to the RI Reds in Providence. In one of the moest opportune moves ever made in the 30-year history of the Reds, General Manager Terry Reardon signed McAvoy to a 1955-56 American Hockel League contract after the two met in a hotel in Montreal. Coming at a time when the Reds have been searching everywhere for defensive help, McAvoy gives the Jack Crawford forces a 23-year-old defenseman who is known for his ability to play the back-line exceptionally well. Hawks End Red Wings ‘Streaks’
DETROIT—When the Chicago Black Hawks tossed the 3-2 surprise party at the expense of the Detroit Red Wings in the season opener here, a whole collection of historical notes came to and end. It was Detroit’s first defeat on home ice in 26 games. The string started last December and encompassed the final 18 games of the 1954-55 season, six playoff games plus the 1955 All Star Game four days previously.
