Rangers’ Draft Choice Loses Life Swimming

HALIBURTON, Ont.— Ross Lowe, named as centre on the American Hockey League, drowned in Lake Haliburton recently while swimming after a runaway boat. Lowe, a standout with Springfield Indians last season, was drafted for $15,000 by New York Rangers of the National Hockey League last June and was counted on being a big help in their rebuilding plans. The 26-year-old centre at one time previously in the NHL with Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens, was the second highest scorer in the AHL last season. Police said Lowe, and an unidentified friend were using a boat as a diving board when a sudden wind caught it and pushed it away from them. Lowe started after it, collapsed from exhaustion and sank.
