Former Bruins To Figure In Detroit Plans

BOSTON. Mass. Four of the five Bruins whom Detroit obtained in the nine player trade which sent Terry Sawchuk to Boston figure prominently in the Red Wings plans for the coming season. This quartet includes defenseman Warren Godfrey, forwards Ed Sandford and Real Chevrefils and rookie goaler Gil Boisvert. High On Rocky Detroit general manager Jack Adams who has traded off eight of his 1955 Stanley Cup champs already, is very high on Godfrey. Adams is counting upon Rocky and another recent Red Wing acquisition, Bucky Hollingworth, to bolster the defense. Jolly Jack admitted he had worries about veteran Bob Goldham’s ability to stand the schedule, a year ago. But he has no concern now even if Gold-ham should go through with his threatened reitrement. Sportscaster Hal Laycoe Has Own Show

BOSTON, Mass.— Just picture Hal Laycoe, in his perspiration-soaked Bruins’ uniform, hustling after a game at the Garden, into the visiting team’s dressing room to interview Gordie Howe, who had just scored four goals, or Rocket Richard, after he had blown his top, again. It could happen too. Laycoe is currently an eagerbeaver sportscaster on Boston’s radio station WCOP. He has a 15 minute show which he calls “Sportspage of the Air” six nights a week at 6 o’clock. The Bruins’ veteran defenseman actually got this sportscast all by himself. He got the idea after appearing as a guest on several different shows during his tenure with the Bruins. Toronto Maple Leafs Sign Junior Star Billy Harris To Professional Contract

TORONTO, Ont.— In the first move designed to fill the huge gap left by the departure of retiring captain Ted Kennedy, Toronto Maple Leafs have announced the signing of junior star Billy Harris from the Toronto Marlboros, Memorial Cup Champions. Harris, who scored 15 goals and had 24 assists with the Dukes last season, came to terms with General Manager Hap Day last month. “This is the first move to fill the gap left by Ted Kennedy’s retirement,” said Day in announcing the signing of the 20-year-old forward. Billy is a student at the University of Toronto and plans to complete his education as well as play professional hockey. “Mr. Day encouraged me to continue with my studies and I’11 do so as long as it doesn’t interfere with my hockey,” he said. “If I…
