Sonmor Gets Over $8000
CLEVELAND, Ohio.—The game between the Cleveland Barons and Pittsburgh Hornets in Cleveland on Wednesday, March 16 produced $8,772.19, after all taxes had been deducted, for Glen Sonmor. Sonmor suffered a serious accident at Pittsburgh on February 23rd which cost him the sight of the left eye. Eddie Bernstein, Treasurer and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Cleveland Barons, suggested to G. M. Jim Hendy, that the entire net receipts be turned over to Glen. Reibel ran wild in the Red Wings’ last three games, picking up no fewer than ten points in one week’s play, to pass teammate Gordie Howe as top point producer on the Wings. On March 16, the Dutchman had one goal and…

WINNIPEG, Man.— Alf Pike, a successful NHL hockey star and later a topflight coach in junior ranks, will next season return to the city where he began his puck-chasing career. Pike has been signed as coach of the new Winnipeg entry in the Western Hockey League for 1955-56. Jack Perrin, vice-president and general manager of the team that will make its debut in the WHL next season, announced that he had signed the former New York Ranger star to a two-year contract. Actually the announcement came as no surprise, for ever since it was confirmed that Winnipeg had been admitted to the Western League, Pike had been rumored as having the inside track for the post. It was not before conferring with many prominent NHL figures, however, that Perrin was satisfied that Pike was…
