Guy Gendron’s Wrist Injury Cost Providence $40,000
PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Guy Gendron suffered what amounts to the costliest injury in 29 years of professional hockey in Providence when he fractured his left wrist in the game against the Pittsburgh Hornets. The Rhode Island Reds had a $40,000 deal all wrapped up with the Montreal Canadiens when Gendron banged into a Pittsburgh player in the first few minutes. He was rushed to the Roger Williams General Hospital where X-rays revealed the break. Word of the broken wrist was relayed from the hospital to R.I. Auditorium where Owner Lou Pieri, General Manager Terry Reardon and Sam Pollock, Chief Scout of the Canadiens waited. Ronty Greets Frank Selke (Junior) As Old Team-mate
MONTREAL—When Paul Ronty, recently acquired by the Montreal Canadiens on waivers from the New York Rangers, walked into the publicity office in the Montreal Forum he greeted an old friend, Frank Selke, Jr. Back in 1942-43 when Ronty was playing for the Marlboro bantams, champions of the Toronto Hockey League, young Selke was the netminder.
