NEW YORY, N.Y.—Although few people are aware of it, amateur hockey did not vanish from New York when it left the Garden with the Rangers-sponsored Rovers two years ago. It is still alive, if not flourishing, in the Blue Line Hockey League contested each Friday night at the Brooklyn Ice Palace. No greater love hath any man for the game than the fellows who play in this league. On Thin ice

Mr. Vince Lunny,c/o The Hockey News,Montreal, Que. DEAR VINCE: Maybe you’ve started an entire new trend of hockey sports writing with your story in the recent HOCKEY NEWS exploding the myth of Gordie Howe receiving “phoney” assists. The statistics you dug up were revealing and must have required considerable research. It was all news to us in Detroit and we were keenly interested. I took the liberty, incidentally, of borrowing your story for my own paper. It was a bold act for a Montreal writer to yank the rug from under those who have followed that propaganda line for years. Hope it didn’t get you into hot water with the Canadien coachingstall. Particularly, I liked your comment about writing the story “in the interests of fair play and Justice.” Also the mention about “this piece being…
