Timely Tallies Teammates Andy Barbe and Jack Caffery had a timely time of it during the week’s play, boosting the Pittsburgh Hornets into a temporary tie for second place on the merit of two well-scored goals. Playing against Cleveland Barons, the Hornets were one goal down at the end of the second frame. They went even on Barbe’s goal in the third, then won it on Caffery’s effort. Sharing the Kudos Dano Fisher, the amazing man from the Hershey Bears, had a little competition in the how-to-help-your-team department during the week. Jumping Joe Lund paced the Buffalo Bisons by scoring once and assisting on two others for a total of three points in one game. Skull Fracture Sidelines Meger For Six Weeks

MONTREAL, Que.— The injury jinx has been prodding its cold, ugly fingers into the affairs of Les Canadiens all season, the latest casualty being Paul Meger, out for six weeks with a fracture of the right temporal bone. First, during the Autumn training period, big Eddie Mazur hobbled off for a knee operation to relieve a damaged cartilege. Then Donnie Marshall, the American Hockey League’s most valuable rookie last season, broke a leg. On an exhibition tour of the Maritimes, Dollard St. Laurent hurt a wrist and was unable to grip his stick properly. After the season got under way Dickie Moore missed two games wltth a partial shoulder separation and Jackie Leclair sat out one with a similar Injury. Caps Lead Tightly Knit Atlantic Loop

FREDERICTON, N.B.— After two weeks of play the ding-dong battle for first spot in the Atlantic Coast Senior Hockey League is still very much of a toss-up. Only four points separate the leaders and the cellar squad at this writing as the Fredericton Caps continue to hold first place by a small margin over the runner-up Moncton Hawks, Amherst Ramblers and Charlottetown Islanders are deadlocked in the basement of the loop, but it’s a very shallow basement Indeed which allows them to roost so handy the Caps and Hawks. One of the features and certainly not a good one from any point of view, in ACSHL play thus far has been the very apparent disregard of some players for the authority vested in the referees around the circuit.
