Big Helpings Jahe Powell of Quebec Aces tuck an immediate lead in the point-getting department, although never once in weekend play did he put a puck in the net. Instead he rated four helpings to go ahead of the pack on points. Watters of Ottawa came right behind him with one goal, two consists. Take Early Lead Ottawa Senators Jumped into an early lead as the Quebec league season opened over the weekend. With stalwart Kay Frederick in goal, the Senators journied to Montreal to meet Fete Morin’s Royals, figured by some early-season experts as too tough for Boucher’s boys. (Toronto Globe & Mail) JIM NORRIS is a handy type citizen to have drop into town on the eve of a holiday weekend on which the accent is once again focused on the overlapping of seasons as represented by full schedules of football, hockey and thoroughbred racing. Big Jim’s Interest in sports are manifold. He is president of the International Boxing Club, operates a successful racing stable and is chairman of the board of Chicago Black Hawks. Had financial editor Ralph Blackmore desired it, we might have picked up a few quotes on the wheat and Great Lakes shipping situations. It’s not often Jim Norris visits our town.
