St. Catharines Teepees ‘53-54 Memorial Cup Winners

TORONTO, Ont.— The East made it six in a row as the St. Catharines Teepees won the Memorial Cup by thumping the Edmonton Oil Kings 6-2 in the final game of the best of seven series which the Teeps won four games to none with one game tied. The West hasn’t won the coveted cup since 1948 when the Port Arthur West End Bruins turned the trick. It was simply a matter of just too much all around power as the St. Catharines team breezed through to their first Memorial in a dozen years of competition. They thus retained in the East the trophy won last season by the Barrie Flyers. George (Red) Sullivan Named American Hockey League MVP

NEW YORK, N.Y.— George (Red) Sullivan of the Hershey Bears, who set a new American Hockey League scoring record of 119 points during the past season, has been chosen as the most valuable player in the league by the circuit’s sportswriters and sportscasters. Thus he increased his league financial bonus jackpot to $900 with the latest $300 award,’ to add to the similar amounts he received for each of his feats of being the leading scorer and his first All-Star team selection. Sullivan also will receive the Leslie Cunningham Trophy for his Most Valuable Player honors. The red headed Hershey center compiled a total of 26 points out of a possible 30 for his latest honor, on four first place selections and two for second choice. Points are given on a basis…
