Twelve Players Score 20 Or More Coals In ‘54
MONTREAL, Que.— Gordie Howe, the prolific scoring ace of the Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings, repeated this season as scoring champion of the National Hockey League, the fourth year in succession that he has turned the trick, something never before accomplished in the NHL. In skating to his fourth point title, Howe scored 3 3 goals and had 48 assists for 81 points. It was the fifth straight year that Howe has scored at least twenty goals but still left him well behind Maurice Richard of the Montreal Canadiens, this season goal scoring leader with 37, in the matter of twenty goal seasons. NHL’s Top Three Scoring Men Won Sixth Title DETROIT RED WINGS, also Stanley Cup champions, this season were crowned NHL title holders for an unprecedented sixth straight time. The Motor City sextet wound up the season with 37 wins and 14 draws for a total of 88 points, seven better than the runner-up Montreal Canadiens, who also ran right behind the Red Wings last season. Their 1953-54 Records GORDIE HOWE, centre, this season won his fourth straight National Hockey League scoring title with a total of 81 points based on 33 goals and 48 assists. Second this season was Maurice Richard, left, who finished with 37 goals and 30 assists for 67 points. 1953-54 Official National Hockey League All-Stars
MONTREAL, Que.— Four repeaters and two newcomers to All-Star rating comprise the 1953-54 National Hockey League All-Star Team as selected by hockey writers and broadcasters in the six NHL cities. Goalkeeper Harry Lumley of Toronto Maple Leafs and Center Ken Mosdell of Montreal Canadiens are the players making their initial appearance on an NHL All-Star Team. The repeaters are Red Kelly, Detroit, and Doug Harvey, Canadiens, on defense, and Gordie Howe and Ted Lindsay, the right and left wingers respectively. This is the fifth consecutive year that Lindsay has been named to the left wing berth and the fourth year in a row for Kelly and Howe.
