BOSTON, Mass.— Hockey coaches seldom have eyes for any players but those on their own teams, but an exception was Muzz Patrick the first time his New York Rangers played the Bruins last month. The new coach of the Rangers couldn’t resist stealing frequent glances at a burly youth named Warren Godfrey, playing a left defense position for the Bruins. Muzz hadn’t seen Godfrey in hadn’t seen him in a regular game since the season of 1951-52. Saskatchewan Junior Clubs Gain Ground

REGINA, Sask.— The Regina Pats and the Moose Jaw Canucks, Saskatchewan’s two entries in the Western Canada Junior Hockey League, came home from their last road’ trip into Alberta in a very happy frame of mind. Both Saskatchewan clubs won three of their four games on the gruelling jaunt which saw them play four games in five nights. And as expected, both losses came at the hands of the powertul Edmonton Oil Kings. The Kings stopped Regina 8-3 and ran roughshod over Moose Jaw to the tune of 11-1. In their other games, Pats edged Calgary Buffaloes 5-4, beat Medicine Hat Tigers by the same score and toppled the Lethbridge Native Sons 6-4. Versatile Rookie Jack Caffrey, On Stand-By Duty For Tod Sloan

TORONTO, Ont.— One of the most versatile and promising athletes in the city of Toronto was summoned by the Maple Leafs to act as standby centre when Tod Sloan was sidelined two weeks with torn ligaments in his left knee. The young gent is 18.-year-old Jack Caffrey, who can’t make up his mind whether he’d rather be a pro hockey player or a pro baseball player. In hockey he’s a member of the St. Michael’s College Majors of the OHA Junior A series and on the Leaf list.
