Quebec Loop Drops Icing the Puck Rule

MONTREAL, Que.— The Quebec Hockey League abandoned a new rule governing icing the puck in a move to eliminate stoppages of play. The new ruling, adopted this year, stated that play shall be stopped and the puck returned to the end zone of the offending team even if a defending player was in position to intercept a puck shot from one end of the ice to the other. The old rule, which the QHL readopted, states that play will continue on an iced puck If a defending player, other than the goalie, is able to play the puck before it crosses the end line.…

Fort Team Boasts Unbeaten Record

FORT WILLIAM, Ont.— The Beavers, Fort William’s entry in the four-team Thunder Bay senior hockey league, are still going strong and today must be the only hockey team in the country with an unbeaten record. Rapidly becoming noted for their strong finishes, the Beavers have won their first eight starts, but this week-end are due to face what many observers believe is their strongest competition, in the form of the Fort Frances Canadians. The Canadiens, fresh from a pair of victories over the Port Arthur Bearcats which moved them to within a few points of the pace-setting Beavers, are due to appear here Sunday and a rousing, exhibition Is expected. Bears’ Fisher Aiming High Figures On 30 Goal Season

Duncan Robert Fisher failed to achieve his goal of firing 30 or more goals into opposition cages last season but this year, barring injuries and possible recall by the Boston Bruins, Dune is confident he will reach that figure. A year ago, Dune lit the red lamp on 29 occasions and would have, had he not missed nine American Hockey League games while helping out in Boston, easily reached and passed the 3 flgoal figure. This season Fisher is running slightly behind his 1952-53 production, but figures he’ll catch up shortly. In 27 games last year, Fisher had 20 goals, compared to 17 in the same number of contests this year. However, with his play-making center, George ‘Red’ Sullivan going like a house-a-fire, Fisher is hoping to capitalize on Red’s uncanny ability…

Sarnia Stars Distributed

TORONTO, Ont— Distribution of players from the Sarnia Sailors who dropped from the Ontario Hockey Association, have been announced by that body. Niagara Falls and Chatham each received three players, Owen Sound and Windsor one apiece. Others have been dedared free agents. Following is the distribution settled at a meeting of OHA president Tory Gregg and a committee: Niagara Falls — Coach Les Douglas, Don Savage and Tommy Jamieson.
