Player - of - the - Week
Any single player who can be picked from the flock and accredited with the noble feat of boosting his team into first place in the NHL standings certainly deserves THE HOCKEY NEWS nomination for player of the week … and just such a fellow is Bert Olmstead of Montreal Canadiens. Always the suave, quiet performer, Olmstead leaped into near-brilliance on Sunday, October S3, after his goal, with only 46 seconds of playing time left broke up a 1-1 tie with New York Rangers to give the Habs ultimate victory and, what is more important, that desperately sought-after foothold atop the league ladder. Toronto’s Teeder Kennedy Ties NHL Scoring Record
TORONTO, Ont.— Veteran Ted Kennedy of the Toronto Maple Leafs, a man with an eye for shattering or tying records whenever humanly possible, has done it again … this time by ramming home the first goal of the Toronto-Boston Bruins game played Saturday, October 24 at Toronto in eight seconds flat. Rabbit McVeigh assisted on that one, and the Montreal Canadiens were on the short end of the final 4-2 tally.…

While he so much wanted a winning squad of United States skaters, it is doubtful that McLaughlin ever went so far as to consider someday having a real American native — an Indian — in Hawk regalia. Although the club was named after a famed warrior, this seemed just a little bit too much to ask. Last month, at the Chicago training camp, however, the ‘impossible’ popped up in the person of a young center, Fred Sasakamoose (pronounced…
