Famed Bears’ Kid Line Split By Henderson

HERSHEY, Pa.— Coach Murray Henderson, of the Hershey Bears, has no plans to reunite Red Sullivan, Jack McIntyre and Norm Corcoran, the high scoring “kid line” of 1950-51 not for the present at least. It was suggested that he throw the former St. Catharines stars together as an offensive’unit when McIntyre and Sullivan Were left with the Bears by the Boston Bruins, reuniting the trio for the first time since their sensational freshman season of three years ago. Playing In most of th Hershey club’s games in 1950-51, the “kid line” amassed a total of 189 points, including 73 goals and 116 assists. Sullivan topped the threesome with 28 goals and 56 assists, followed by McIntyre with 28 goals and 36 assists and Corcoran, who scored 17 times and assisted on 24 other…

Ross Body-Checks Patrick “A-La Ray Gariepy”

BOSTON, Mass.— Arthur H. Ross may be 67 years old, but the veteran general manager of the Bruins still packs a wallop. Lynn Patrick, the Bruins’ 220-pound coach who is 26 years Ross’ junior, found that out the other day. Ross and Patrick were illustrating a discussion of bodychecking in the Bruins’ office, with Uncle Arthur as the defensive player and Lynn as the puck-carrier. “Now the way to hit a man is this way,” explained Ross, and with a flip of his hip he spilled the startled Patrick into a nearby sofa. Amidst the roars of laughter, led by Patrick, an onlooker observed, “The Ray Gariepy (body-checking Bruins’ defenseman) influence is even spreading to the front office.”…

Saints Get Stars Hay, Bonin ‘Arrive’

SHERBROOKE, Que.— Sherbrooke Saints of the new Quebec Hockey League have acquired the services of Forward “Marcel Bonin and Defenseman Jim (Red Eye) Hay from the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League. The pair joined the Saints along with Dave Gatherum, the youthful netminder who was returned after substituting for the Injured Terry Sawchuk. In his first game in the big league, Gatherum shutout the Toronto Maple Leafs. Bonin was a Detroit regular lit the latter part of the 1952-53 season after being called up from the St. Louis Flyers of the American Hockey League. Getting into a total of 37 regular schedule games, he accounted for four goals and nine assists for 13 points. In the five playoff games against the Boston Bruins he was held scoreless but did contribute…
