Delvecchio Earmarked As Future Great, Is Already Proven Star Yet He’s Only 21
DETROIT, Mich.— “From all the talk going on you’d think that Beliveau was the next All Star center right now. That’s bum dope — we have the next All Star pivotman right here on the Detroit club.” The speaker was Alex Delvecchio, chatting with newsmen In the Detroit lockerroom. Since he already has established himself as a topflight center (second All Star team last season), it might seem like a personal pitch. Not Alex. For he added: “There’s the next All Star right over there — Dutch Reibel.” Which may give some idea of the modest way the ever-smiling youngster acts. Also some idea about his hockey wisdom. For the discussion came just before the Wings’ opener in which Reibel assisted on all four goals in a 4-1 triumph over Rangers. Wisdom — the rink wisdom…

Moore and Fogolin Nicked $100 For Stick Swinging Do
MONTREAL, Que.— Dig-gin’ Dickie Moore of the Montreal Canadiens has the reputation of being a player who neither gave nor asked any quarter when playing hockey. Unfortunately for Diggin’ Dick that reputation plus the fact that he tried to wrap his stick around the neck of Chicago’s Lee Fogolin, has cost him $100. It also let him become part of a rather unique mark in the NHL record book. For the first time in the loop’s hstory, two players Moore and Fogolin, drew match penalties and the automatic $100 fines that go with them, in the very first game of the season. Fogolin and Moore mixed it up along the boards in a hecticly played first period of a game that saw the Habs blank the Hawks 30. Then they stepped back and…
AHL To Continue 10-Minute Overtime
NEW YORK, NY.— A ten minute, sudden death overtime period will again be in vogue in the American Hockey League this season. This has been revived in an effort to cut tied games to a minimum. This popular feature of AHL games has proved to be a definite success in eliminating deadlocked contests. Last season, in 224 games played, there were only eight ties, or just one In every 28 games played.…
