Red Wings Tried Desperately To Set Howe Up For Big Goal

DETROIT, Mich.— While waiting around for the playoffs to, start, favorite hobby of Detroit Red Wings was trying to set Gordie Howe up for goals. It wasn’t easy. Not that Howe wasn’t trying, nor that his linemates weren’t doing their best. But the big right winger from Saskatoon ran into a slump, according to Howe standards. He had scored 45 goals in the 63 games it took Detroit to clinch the title, and it figured that by concentrating on the project in the seven “free” games left, he shouldn’t have too much trouble hitting the target of 50-plus. No. 47 came along in the next game, but then followed three games in Which he was blanked. That left an assignment of three games, and three goals (or more) for Howe. But on the basis of…

Captain Kennedy himself marked a milestone in his long NHL career this past week…

OHA Teams Woo QSHL Players; Possibility of Eight To Ten Team League for Next Season

STRATFORD, Ont.— Unless the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association and the Quebec Amateur Hockey Association settle their controversy over the Atwell case, there could be repercussions, because it is known that a number of Ontario senior clubs have made overtures to players in the Quebec Senior Hockey League. Meanwhile, according to George Dudley, CAHA secretarymanager, the QAHA will remain suspended until the May meeting, regardless of what action the Quebec senior and junior clubs take. According to CAHA regulations., once a CAHA affiliate is suspended, all players in the banned organization become free agents, and with the probability that the “Big Seven” senior “A” OHA group is likely to expand, since growing pains are developing, there is every reason to believe that the charter clubs and new ones will be angling for the…
