Babando Gets Another Chance

NEW YORK, N.Y.— In line with their “let’s look at next year policy”, the Rangers have shippel one player to the Coast to make a place for the several juniors they’ll call in for inspection. Pete Babando, brought from the Hawks in mid-season, was to go to Vancouver and George Se-nick has gone to Saskatoon, from whence he came early last month. Senick will be eligible for the Western League play-offs. He is not presently in the Rangers’ 1953-54 plans. Babando was to have gone to Saskatoon Quakers but the Blues’ brass changed their minds after he played a terrific game against Chicago.…

Bazzle Called Him Picket

MONTREAL, Que.—Bert Olmstead was christened Picket by Baz O’Meara, sports editor of the Montreal Daily Star and Baz has a special reason for attaching the nickname to the lanky Canadiens’ left-winger. According to Baz he remembers a lanky youngster in his earlier sports writing days in Ottawa who answered to the name of Olmstead. “We never did get to know his first name because he was always called Picket,” says Baz. Hence the similarity between the two prompted Baz to tag a name on Olmstead.…
