Steve Hrymnak One Big Reason For. Lofty Perch of Flyers
ST. LOUIS, Mo— Hockey’s a glamour game to many dyed-in-the-wool fans and it’s exciting sport and even glamorous to some of the players, but to hardworking Steve Hrymnak, the St. Louis Flyers’ ever - hustling captain, playing hockey is a regular job. “I’ve played hockey ever since I’ve been nine years old,” Baid the modest defenseman, “and whereas a person has his ups and downs and hot streaks and cold streaks, the sport’s simply a job to me—and I think I work hard at it.” There can be no challenge to that, because if ever a player is constantly giving his all and plugging and hustling every minute of the way, even in the face of bone-shaking injuries, it’s the 16 5-pound Hrymnak. Detroit’s Ladder System Well-Runged With Stars
DETROIT. Mich.— The variety and balance of Detroit Red Wings’ widespread hockey organization was accented by the presence of the two newest rookies, relief goaler Glen Hall and forward Marcel Bonin. Absorbed into the system as a youngster several years ago, he gradually moved up the ladder by playing on three different farm teams. All the way along he was groomed and educated by coaches trained in the Detroit pattern. Each fall his improvement was studied and noted at training camp by General Manager Jack Adams…
Flyers Need Lengthy Win Streak To Catch Front-Running Dukes
GUELPH. Ont.— Unless Barrie Flyers can launch a sensational winning streak in the New Year Toronto Marlboros appear destined to breeze to their second straight Ontario Hockey Association junior “A” title. Flyers are the only team in a position to give Marlboros a fight and they haven’t been able to close the gap between second and first place in recent weeks. Marlboros went into the New Year with an eight-point advantage over the Fivers. St. Michael’s Majors, a team that was expected to fight for leader ship every inch of the way, has fallen badly off the pace. Although still in third place at year’s end they were six full games behind the Dukes. Even six games might not be too much of a deficit to overcome—not in junior hockey anyway but Marlboros are…
