Chi Farm Setup Proves Hawks’ Players Not All From Trades
CHICAGO, III.— The Chicago Black Hawks’ farm system has had few chances to blush from flattery. To the contrary, fans and critics of the club have usually scoffed at the mention of the player development program. “What farm system?…I didn’t think they had any…They get all their players through trades,” have been typical of remarks. “There has never been any real justification for such unfair reasoning and here is proof,” Hawk General Manager Bill Tobin said last week. With that he released a previously Confidential list of close to 50 players developed through the Chicago farm setup during recent years. Twenty-six on the list, we discovered, are now doing their puck pushing in the three recognized pro leagues with seven in the National, three in the American and 16 in the Western circuit.…

Speaking on Sport
Primeau Knows About Garrison Finishes JOE PRIMEAU would be the last man to count a hockey club out of the running—his own club or the other guy’s—until the cold and unrelenting mathematics said the club positively couldn’t make the playoffs. Joe was a member of the old Toronto Ravinas, Brantford Falcons, or whatever you’d life to call them, who made one of the most spectacular spurts in hockey history to reach the sugar series. And they did it with a leg-weary staff of eight men. “We had Joe Ironstone in goal; Dutch Cain, Bert Corbeau and Carl Voss on defence,” Primeau recalled the other day. “Our forward line…

Leafs Pad Pants Against Further Injury to Backs
TORONTO—If Howie Meeker of the Toronto Maple Leafs appears to be skating a little stiffer these days, its not old age creaping up on him. Meeker is wearing a special corset-like apparatus to protect his Injured back. The rest of the Leafs too are taking precautions against the rash of back injuries that has plagued the team. They are reinforcing the backs of their hockey pants with foam rubber padding.…

Wings Enter 1953 Leading in Everything
DETROIT, Mich.— Neat and tidy, the Red Wings have done their best to get the books all balanced properly with no loose strings as the year 1952 came to an end. Both as a team and individually, they have managed to get about every possible item on the profitable side of the ledger. First, a look at the team situation. As 1953 approached Detroit had climbed back into the National Hockey League saddle. They were out of first place, the spot occupied for the last four season, during a stretch of six weeks. But on Dec. 7 they climbed back into first and since have built up the biggest lead held by any club. At the same time, they were credited with more victories, fewer defeats, more goals-for and fewer goals-against than any of…
