Canadiens Return Abbott, May Recall Doug Anderson
MONTREAL, QUE.—The Montreal Canadiens have returnd Reg Abbott to the Victoria Cougars of the Western Hockey League. Abbott was called up by the parent Canadlen’s for a three game trial when Elmer Lach broke his thumb. Reg played his three games and impressed both General Manager Frank Selke and Coach Dick Irvin but they believe that he will be better off to end the season in Victoria and have him return to the NHL next season. Abbott played his games for the Habs on a line with Boom Boom Geoffrion and Paul Meger. The Habs lost 2-1 to Toronto and Boston and tied 2-2 in New York while he was with them. CHICAGO, Ill.—The exact wealth of the late James Norris is not known. However, the figure was thought to be in the vicinity of 200,000,000 dollars. As a sportsman he backed many enterprises. In late years he shared ownership of five sports arena corporations—Chicago Stadium Corp., St. Louis Arena Corp., Indianapolis Colosium Corp., and the Olympia Stadium Corp., in Detroit. He also controlled much stock in Madison Square Garden Corp., in New York. As a business tycoon he was a director of the First National Bank of Chicago, the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Rail road Co., the West Indies Sugar Corp., the Upper Lakes and St. Lawrence Transit Co. Hab Fans Tag Stewart ‘Lucky Gaye’ As Their Club Wins With Him
MONTREAL, Que.— The Canadiens finally untracked themselves on foreign ice last week and broke a long non-winning streak. Until last Wednesday, December 10 they had failed to win a game on the other guy’s ice. They had gone nine games without a win and only Gerry McNeil’s great play topped the opposition from running up some big scores. Whether in desperation or otherwise the Habs picked up Gaye Stewart for the $7,500 waiver price from the Rangers. Since he joined the club they can’t lose for winning. Gaye joined the Habs in Toronto. It was the fifth time he had donned a different NHL jersey. He started with Toronto, went to Chicago, to Detroit to Rangers and now Montreal. Bolton Balks At Being Sent to AHL
TORONTO—Hugh Bolton, defenseman with the Toronto Maple Leafs since that start of the season has refused to report to the Providence Reds of the American Hockey League. Originally ticketed for the Ottawa Senators of the QSHL, Bolton was despatched to Providence when the Montreal Canadiens refused to pass waivers on him.
