Doctor Pete Morin Shakes Lines Well Before Starting New Streak

MONTREAL, Que.— When the going got rough, when the pathway seemed so full of snarls, snags and the team hit a slump, Pete Morin, coach of the QSHL Royals decided it was time for action. His remedies were by no means drastic. He didn’t censure nor fine his players, he didn’t tear up any uniforms or break any sticks, or fire pucks viciously. He just shook up his lines. “We have a lot of good players on this squad” he said. “Maybe the forwards are not mated or blended right. Maybe it’s my fault. We’ll just change ’em around a little. We’ll see…” So he put long-legged Eddie Litzenberger with Les Douglas and Gerry Plamondon. He moved Bob Frampton in with Skippy Burchell and Lulu Denis and he placed Cliff Malone with Gerry Desaulniers…

‘Fireman’ Connell Named Ottawa Business Manager

OTTAWA, Ont.— The Ottawa Senators of the Quebec Senior Hockey League have a new business manager. He is none other than Alex Connell, the Capital City Fireman who starred in halcyon days with Ottawa, Detroit and Montreal Maroon teams in the National Hockey League. Connell, who is retired now but who is on the staff of the Auditorium here, will replace Joe Gorman, pro tern, while the latter takes to the road with the Sonja Henie Ice Show. The former Ottawa Senator net-minder takes over immediately and if his past record for hi-jinks is any criterion, the Slater circuit can expect some colorful visits from the Senator crew. Connell, the…

Planes Are Grounded; Maritime Majors Miss First Date of Season

The first playing date has been missed in the Maritime Major (Big Four) Hockey League, and maybe it is a forerunner of what is to come. If you recall last season—and players, referees and fans shudder when they do—you’ll remember that many were the teams and the occasions when snowdrifts took their toll. Of course that was the year of the six teams and the 90-game schedule. This time the league has been reduced to four teams and 78 games per each, which sounds a little easier on life and limb. But if you know the Maritime winters you have to be prepared for anything. Sydney Millionaires almost missed a date. It was like this. One night they played in Charlottetown. They travelled by bus, were delayed on the road and pulled into…

Pronovost First Wing To Be Forced Out By Injury

DETROIT. Mich.—Marcel Pronovost is the only Detroit regular who has been forced out of the lineup by Injury this season. He missed one game. The Red Wings won that one in Boston without him, but they were glad he got back in time for the next start in New York. It was a 2-2 tie, with Pronovost scoring both Detroit goals.…
