‘Boot’ Back in Hamess for Good After 3-0 Win
CHICAGO, Ill’— The Chicago Black Hawks’ best game to date attracted the largest crowd of the season to an NHL contest November 23. A total of 15,962 paying rooters nearly tore the roof off the Chicago Stadium as Sil Abel’s roaring warriors slapped down the champion Detroit Red Wings 3 to 0 to avenge the previous night’s 10 to 1 shellacking in the Motor City. Abel, for the first time since coming to the Hawks, assumed full-time command of the team as a player. He took his regular turn by centering the two Jims, McFadden and Peters. “I felt pretty good out there and I’ll be playing regularly from now on,” he announced happily later. Champs Finding it Tougher to Go Up Than Down Ladder
DETROIT, Mich.— The Red Wings are finding that it’s a lot harder to climb up the ladder than to slide down. In the space of two weeks the Wings ran into the worst slump a Detroit team had suffered in six seasons. They stumbled from first place in the National Hockey League, standing to fourth by winning only one of seven games. Then they started a recovery in which they lost only once in six games. Yet they found themselves still in fourth place. At the bottom of the skid they were six points back of the Montreal Canadiens, then the leaders.
