Ont. Juniors To Go Along With One Referee

GUELPH, Ont.— One or two clubs are still lamenting the decision but the Ontario Hockey Association’s junior “A” council decided at its November meeting to con-tinue with one referee and two linesmen instead of the two-referee system that prevailed last season. The clubs which defended the present set-up didn’t throw any bouquets at the officials but they thought that the one referee and his two bodyguards were doing a satisfactory job. Consensus of opinion was that one “good” re-feree could keep even the most turbulent game under control whereas one “poor” referee would be in trouble even if he had six assistants. The Ontario teams don’t pretend that all their referees fall in the “good” category. But they hope that several of this year’s linesmen will benefit from experience and eventually graduate to…

Former Royals Have Field Day at Expense of Old Teammates

QUEBEC. Que.— George M. Slater, league prexy, has the QSHL schedule rigged this year so that every once in a while one of the teams has a week off. It was Aces’ turn last weekend, but Punch Imlach didn’t allo whis squad to rust. He booked a few games in the far corners of Quebec Province. Thus Aces were booked in Rouyn, Noranda and Vald’Or. Things, hadn’t been breaking any too-well for El Puncho, he and Jack Latter were still smarting over the 8-3 shellacking handed their hopefuls in Montreal when they held to a 4-4 tie by the lowly Cataracts, and right in Quebec Coliseum too. The worst of it was that the Aces had a 4-2 edge in this outing going into the last period. To make things tougher it seemed…

Player-Of-The-Week

The New York Rangers have been going exactly nowhere so far this season but its not for want of trying on the part of their diminutive right winger Wally Hergesheimer. The purchase of the 5’8” Hergesheimer by the Rangers last season is paying off all kinds of dividends for Wally has vaulted into the scoring leadership with 12 goals in the 16 games the New Yorkers have played. This is more than one third of the total goal output of the whole Blueshirt team who have collec ed 34. Though there are several others tied with his 18 point total. Hergy is placed atop the heap on account of his higher goal output. Hergy started his big move to the top in New York on Wednesday. November 12 with a hat-trick plus…
