GUELPH, Ont— New York Rangers’ playoff hopes took on a brighter hue when the N.H.L. governors, meeting in New York, ruled that Edgar Laprade would be permitted to return to Rangers. That was the first break the New Yorkers have received since they opened their training camp here a few weeks back. Manager Frank Boucher promptly interpreted it as a good omen and he still insists that Rangers will make the playoffs. Laprade, a Ranger star for several seasons, is expected to replace Don “Bones” Raleigh at centre between Gaye Stewart and Eddy Slowinski. But the Port Arthur pivot flash has made it clear that he has not changed his mind about retirement. *** Wrist Badly Broken He informed Boucher that he would play for Rangers only until Raleigh is able to return to the lineup.…

They may be uncertain about other things, but not about that. Moore Knee Question Mark for Habs

MONTREAL, Que. — The kid with one of the toughest hearts and the weakest pair of knees in the National Hockey League, Dickie Moore insists that he will play this season despite stories to the contrary. Moore who as been having the same knee trouble that plagued him through most of last season has been getting regular treatment from Forum medicos. Whether he will be in the Canadiens’ starting lineup remains to be seen. Moore’s right knee was operated on during the off season. The cartilage was removed and the operation was called a success.
