Hainsworth, Jackson Starred but All-Stars Never Gave Up
(Montreal Herald) Authentically the first All-Star game was a fine show, even though it became quickly apparent that the All-Stars, who came catapulting into Toronto on the afternoon of the game from all ends of the hockey world, many arriving only a few hours before the game, jaded by long trainrides, could no hope to combine their varied forms of skiland technique with any degree of usefu cohesion. Against the ragged brilliance of then opposition, the Leafs tossed a powerful, smooth and efficient machine, sturdy cogs that clicked smoothly into place who worked with fine understanding, who passed with perfect timing and who, at the end ripped asunder the best defensive the All-Stars could toss out. Sports Reputation Hit All Time Peak Some 17 Years Ago
DETROIT, Mich.— It was 17 years ago that Detroit began billing itself as “The City of Champions.” That was the year when the Motor City’s sports reputation hit an alltime peak which is unlikely to be equaled anywhere. The baseball Tigers won the World Series, the hockey Red Wings the Stanley Cup, the football Lions the pro title and playoffs, and the basketball Eagles the pro cage crown. In the years since the local citizenry have liked to think that the championship label still was authentic. And thanks to Jack Adams and his Red Wings there still is sound evidence today.
