Habs Lose John With Broken Arm

MONTREAL, Que. — The Canadiens lost the services of Johnny McCormack for the playoffs in the’ last a home game in Montreal. He collided with defenseman Marcel Pronovost of the Detroit Red Wings and fractured his left arm just above the elbow. The loss of McCormack meant that Coach Dick Irvin had to re-shuffe his lines. He was using McCormack at center between Olmstead and Curry. After McCormack was injured Irvin had to break up his first line of Richard, Lach and Moore. He put Moore at center to replace McCormack and put Gamble on the first line. Although it worked out satisfactorily it’s doubtful Irvin will let it remain that way. When Richard returned from has injury the first thing the Haba’ coach did was put him back on a line…

MONTREAL, Que.— Toronto Maple Leafs, the defending’ Stanley Cup holders, will not be lacking in playoff experience… Sixteen members of the Leafs have played on at least one Stanley Cup winner. Six of the Leafs, Ted Kennedy, Jim Thomson, Gus Mortson, Harry Watson, Howie Meeker and Joe Klukay have played on four Stanley Cup teams … Kennedy, captain of the Leafs, has played on five Cup champions. No other player in modern hockey has played on as many Cup winners … Conn Smythe, Toronto manager, shares with Tommy Gorman the distinction of managing the most Stanley Cup teams. Smythe has managed every Toronto Maple Leafs team to annex the Cup and the Leafs have won it seven times … The Leafs were Cup winners in 1932, 1942, 1945, 1947, 1948, 1949…

Mosie First Hawk to go Over 30 Since Max Bentley

CHICAGO — When Bill Mosienko scored his ‘hat trick’ last Sunday night in New York he boosted his goal scoring, output to 31. He became the first Chicago player to go over the 30 mark since the 1945-46 season. Max Bentley was the last player to score over 30 for the Hawks. When he led the League in scoring in 1945-U6 Bentley scored 31 goals — same as Mosienko — and added 30 assists for 61 points in 47 games. Since then Bentley has scored 29 goals and so did Metro Prystai when they were Hawks.…
