Selke Will Deal Only to Benefit Club’s Strength
MONTREAL, Que.— When the Montreal Canadiens turned down that $25,000 offer by Chicago for defensen man Bud MacPherson, it did not mean they weren’t interested in making deals at the present time. It did mean, however, that the Habs are not interested in money, just players. In refusing the 25 G’s for MacPherson the Canadiens’ management decided to go along with a defense corps made up primarily of players who had carried the banner into action against the Detroit Red Wings In the playoffs last season and came out victorious. Defensemen Next In Line For Star Picking Effort
In past years there usually have been one or two standout defensemen in the running to make the job of the customers a lot easier when picking the rearguard duo for the Fans’ All Star Team. We’ve singled out one from each team to give you a line on their performance—but you still have more than a month to look them over and decide which two deserve the nomination. Because, under…

OTTAWA. Ont.— Big Bill Durnan, onetime Hab star and now coach of the Ottawa Senators in the Quebec League, is the personification of gloom these days. His Barber Poles, like Toe Blake’s Valleyfield Braves, have fallen into the doldrums of late, ond can’t seem to win a game to oave their lives. In fact, the situation is so precarious for both teams at the moment that they may find themselves having a difficult time grabbing that last playoff berth, so hot are Sherbrooke and Shawinigan. “I can’t understand it,” remarked Big Bill recently. “The boys are trying just as hard out there, but everything seems to be going against us. It’s got me worried.” To give you an example of what Durnan meant, the Senators dropped a couple of weekend games recently to the…
