New Faces And Lineup Changes Frequent In NL
DETROIT, Mich.— The speed which some hockey players show on the ice is matched by the speed with which others are shipped off to new teams. In the never - ending search for improvement, there have been constant lineup changes in the National Hockey League this season. Back at the six NHL training camps last October, shrewd coaches selected what each considered to be his 16 best players. All had plenty of material to look at, and the rest was whisked away to various minorleague farm clubs. Yet by the time the season was half gone, there were 19 men playing regularly who weren’t among those chosen at the start of the campaign. That means about a 20 percent turnover in the combined lineups. Red Wings Make Few Detroit Red Wings had the least excuse for…

Mackell Welcomes Deal, Big Chance To Score Goals -- Not From Bench
BOSTON, Mass.— New Boston Bruins who may show the most proficiency eventually are Real Chevrefils and Leo Labine, the ex-Hershey Hot Shots, but the one from whom Coach Lynn Patrick expects the most the soonest is Fleming David Mackell. The son of an original member of Ottawa’s famed Silver Seven, Mackell has the makings of an excellent player, in Patrick’s considered opinion. The Bruins bagged him earlier this month from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for Jim Morrison, who was playin defense for Hershey when General Manager Art Ross swung the deal. As a Maple Leat the 22-year-old MacKeil was a permanent member of the penalty-killing detail, with occasional choros of filling in for regular rings. Patrick promptly put him to work as a regular left wing with Cd Sandford, the big center with…
Desperation Move By Patrick Nets Bruins Best Trio Of Season
BOSTON, Mass.— Chuck Rayner … Al Rollins … Harry Lumley … Terry Sawchuk … Gerry McNeil … they’re all starting to look alike to Dave Creighton, Jack McIntyre and John Peirson, the Big Three of the Boston Bruins. For nearly two months Creighton, McIntyre and Peirson have been making shooting galleries of National League nets, clay pigeons of National League goalies, shambles of National League defenses. Since the start of December no other line has matched the scoring output of the Creighton Combine, whose development has been one of the seasons biggest surprises. Creighton, a 185-pound center who was once a left wing, and McIntyre, a 185-pound left wing who was once a defenseman. were tossed on the ice with the 175-poujnd Peirson during a game In Detroit on the-29th of November. Coach Lynn Patrick,…
