Conn Smythe looked like a man who won a moral victory as he emerged from the National League board of governor s’ meeting in New York’s posh Park Lane Hotel. “It came out a tie,” he told waiting newsmen with no effort to hide his enthusiasm, warranted in this case because he had been the leading voice in the nays to Walter Brown’s suggestion that overtime might be the cure-all for sagging attendances in American NHL cities. MONTREAL. One— Trade talk continued to be persistent in Montreal last week but it was still just talk. Nobody has changed uniforms as yet. But that doesn’t mean they won’t. The latest chatter had the Canadiens dangling Defenseman Doug Harvey as bait for Red Wings’ rearguard Marcel Pronovost. “Sure I offered Harvey for Pronovost,” says General Manager Frank Selke, “but the news is only a year late. I made that offer to Jack Adams last season. “I am willing to make trades with anybody if I think I am getting something in return to strengthen our club. It’s no good trying to do business with those bottom placers.
