Player - of - the - Week
Dipsy-Doodling Maxwell Herbert Lloyd Bentley, better known as just plain Max became the 19th player in the history of the National Hockey League to scored 200 goals. On the night of December 1 in Toronto Slippery Max took a pass from Fleming Mackell and batted the disc past Rayner. Mackell could have scored the goal himself for he had a wide open net in which to do it but he preferred to see the wirey little guy with the dangling legs get his desired goal. Although the records show that many players out bid Bentley in point scoring last week the editors of THE HOCKEY NEWS are nevertheless, chosing Bentley as O’Keefe’s Player-of-the-week for which he will received their award. When Max scored his 200th goal he joined his brother Doug who…

Poor Road Record Puts Habs In Race For Low Spot In Playoff Dash
MONTREAL, Que.— The Montreal Canadiens sport the worst road club in the League, in fact this is probably one of the worst road clubs the Habs have shown in a long time. So far this season the Canadiens have managed to win just one game on the road and tie three. They have not won a game on foreign ice since way back on October 14 when they tripped the Boston Bruins in Beantown 4-3. That was their first trip on the road in 1951-52 and since then they have not fared too well. In 11 games on the road this season the Habs have managed to come home with just five points. Last week they returned from a four game road trip with one point out of eight. That, in a nutshell is…

Slow To Warm, New Haven Fans Hotting On EHL Six
NEW HAVEN, Conn.— Following the dismal years of the New York Rangers’ regime in New Haven, and last season’s pitiful venture of the independent New Haven Eagles, Elm City hockey fans have started to wend their way back into the confines of the Arena to view the exciting action of the New Haven Tomahawks, hard-scrapping contenders in the Eastern Hockey League’s Northern Division race. As Charley Kellogg, sports editor of the New Haven Register expressed it in his column, “Looking ‘em Over,” the majority of old hockey die hards of the Rambler-Eagle era, adopted a you-gotta-show-me attitude. They had become accustomed to watching American League hockey, which had a generous sprinkling of National League stars, and to accept the ice sport in any other form, especially In a league of lower classification,…

Young Conacher Will Play Out 3 Game NHL Tryout
CHICAGO, Ill.— The night of November 18 and its before and after will probably forever be vivid in the memory of a young junior hockey star from Galt, Ont. It marked his first chance and his first success in the big time, the National Hockey League. Nineteen-year-old Peter Conacher, whose future in the ice sport will be built around the Herculean task of upholding the fabulous Conacher tradition, had been a standout with Galt in Ontario Junior loop play last season and so far this fall. As a right wing on the team’s first line this year he’d accounted for 13 goals and 14 assists in 14 games, but even this excellent record didn’t lead to any thoughts of an NHL debut with Chicago’s Black Hawks.. Nevertheless, on November 15 telegram from Chicago…
