Eight Team EAHL Sees Bright Future Ahead

BOSTON, Mass.— “This is an Eastern Hockey League year” is the rallying cry from the eastern seaboard this fall. Optimism for a banner season for the Eastern loop which will start its 18th campaign Friday Oct. 26, stems from the increased size of the circuit and the enthusiasm displayed by the new members since their admission into the league. The E.H.L. will operate with eight “teams this Winter, twice the size of the circuit a year ago. New members are Philadelphia and Washington which return to the fold after a three year’s absence, and Springfield and New Haven. The old teams are the Atlantic City Sea Gulls, Boston Olympics, Johnstown Jets and New York Rovers. At the current time four of the coaches are Eastern League graduates. Chi Spadework Starts To Pay

NORTH BAY, Ont— If this Fall’s amateur camp of the. downtrodden Chicago Black Hawks is any indication, then the future of the Windy City NHL squad is a rosy one. For many years Chicago didn’t even have a farm system but in recent years the organization has expanded tremendously, and it’s improving by leaps and bounds. The amateur camp this season was a great one. Coach Ebbie Goodfellow, publicist Joe Farrell, and farm system director Johnny Mitchell all expressed enthusiastic opinions over the abundance of talent on display. At least half a dozen youngsters were tagged as possible N.H.L. material, including an allNorthern Ontario line of Ken Wharram at center between Ron Wallace and Murray Costello. Team Added, West Junior Loop Hits Road For ‘52, With Pats Club To Catch

LETHBRIDGE, Alta.— The Western Canada Junior Hockey League, increased from six to seven teams this year with the addition of Edmonton Oil Kings, launched the 1951-52 season Friday October 12, and officials are busy beating the drums for what they promise will be the biggest campaign in the history of the league. Regina Pats the league’s representatives last year in the chase for the Memorial Cup, are once again hailed the team to beat with 12 players slated to return from the 1950-51 powerhouse. David “Sweeney” Schriner, once the greatest left winger in the National Hockey League, will coach Crow’s Nest Pass Coalers of the Western Canada Junior Hockey League during the current campaign.
