AMERICAN LEAGUE
Big Night Cliff Simpson of the St. Louis Flyers had one of the biggest nights of his fine career on December 5 against Providence. Simpson scored four-goals, his third tying the contest at 18:47 of the third period and number four being the game winner in overtime as the Flyers won 7-6. Three In A Row Goalie Gil Mayer of the Pittsburgh Hornets, who has a fine goal-against record of 2.00, last week scored three shutouts in a row in a phenomenal feat. First he blanked Hershey 3-0, then he stopped the Cleveland Barons 6-0. One day later he whitewashed St. Louis 4-0 for a perfect week. HOW THE RAGE GOES A newcomer to the heights has arrived—the Hershey Bears last week took over first place in the Eastern Division. The Bears at long last…

Cuss Words Under Fire In OHA; Draw 3 Game Ban
TORONTO, Ont.— Determined to wipe out foul and abusive language that had marred recent games, the Ontario Hockey Association in executive session has cracked down on future offenders with an automatic three-game suspension. “We must stamp out this wave of disrespect for clean play and of our officials,” declared Jack Roxburgh, OHA president. “Several fans have written to the OHA office complaining of the foul language used by players in the penalty box”, added George Panter, OHA business manager.” I’ve had one referee flatly refusing to take further games because of this condition”. Leaders Feted The OHA has made it official that an automatic three-game suspension follows any action taken by referees in future games to curb foul language and unsportsman like conduct. After the three-game suspension the OHA Executive reserves the right to review…

THOSE GOOD OLD DAYS WERE NOT SO GOOD OLD PUCK FILM SHOWS
(Toronto Daily Star) TORONTO, Ont.— Hockey followers who moan about the ills of modern hockey and long for the “good old days” would have been shocked had they been permitted to sit at the screening of past and present hockey games at the Maple Leaf Gardens recently. With General-manager Conn Smythe, of the Leafs, supplying the commentary, the scribes were shown pictures of the hectic Montreal Canadien-New York Ranger N.H.L. playoff in Madison Square Garden back in 1935. Then a shot of a modern Leaf-Boston game. The turbulent Ranger-Canadian duel had more stick swinging blood-letting than we’ve seen in five seasons. However, the tempo was much slower, the stickhandling no better if as good and the goalkeeping not nearly as good. It was also noticeable that the referees (they used two in those days) had…

Player-Of-The-Week
Doff your hot to Buddy O’Connor for they said he would never make it but he did. They said he wouldn’t last another year with the New York Rangers but he is and not only is he making a few experts eat their words, he’s making them do it the hard way. Ta show he still has what it takes O’Connor has taken over where he left off two seasons ago and is once again the leader of the New York club. We choose Buddy as the Player-Of-The-Week and ’Schaefer Award’ winner not because he broke any scoring records or displayed any feats of magic but because he played good enough hockey to lead his team to two ties and a victory last week in three games. In the last four…
