Fashoway Fined In addition to the $25 fine and suspension Gord Fashoway, a left winger with Milwaukee will be fined the remainder of his current two weeks pay cheque by the parent Chicago Black Hawks. Good Balance Proof of the balance in the Omaha Knights. who lead the loop with 14 wins, four losses and two ties, is the fact that they do not dominate the individual records. Habs Call On Five From Minors To Bolster Ranks As Injuries And Goal Famine Take Big Toll

MONTREAL, Que.— The Montreal Canadiens have been threatening for some time to make some drastic changes and last week they finally did, using three amateurs on the lend lease basis in one game. The amateurs who answered the Habs’ S.O.S. are Jean Beliveau, Dick Gamble and Bernie Geoffrion. All three were playing their first game in the N.H.L. and Geoffrion celebrated the occasion in fine style by slapping home a shot which gave the Canucks a one all draw with the New York Rangers. All this took place in Montreal last Saturday night! Other new faces in the Canadiens’ red, white and blue were Hugh Currie, called up from Buffalo on loan, and Tommy Manastersky who earlier in the day turned professional with the Montrealers after playing a Wednesday game in New…

HEW HOME OF STAMPS IS ONE OF CLASSIEST; FANS PICKING NAME

CALGARY, Alta.— The new Calgary hockey palace, which as yet hasn’t been dubbed with a name, will not have to take a back seat to any arena in the country. When the home of the Stampeders was finally completed it ran into a figure close to $1,500,000. Originally, the new 6,600-seat home of the Stampeders was to cost one and one-quarter million dollars but the figure had soared past this week before completion. The new Arena seats better than 2,000 more fans than the old Victoria Arena and when crowds really get large there is enough room for 2,500 to stand. The new rink is 100 per cent fireproof and of cement construction. It was designed by John Stevenson, Calgary architect and constructed by Bird Construction Co., a Regina firm. The ice surface is…

‘Radiorchids’

KEN MILTON STATION CKX, Brandon, Man. Although there was no opening for a sports announcer on the staff of Station CKX, Brandon, Ken Milton took an intense interest in sports when he joined the staff as announcer in 1944. After a stint in the Canadian Navy in 1945-1947, Milton returned to the station as a fill-in for sportscasters who were ill or absent. His break came when the night sports man moaed to the States, and he was assigned to the nightly-sponsored ‘Sport Report’. He also did hockey commentary on Junior and Intermediate games for play by play announcer, Jim Keilback. In the summer of 1950, things began to really hum for Milton. Keilback moved to a Winnipeg station, and Milton fell in line for three sponsored sportscasts daily, plus remote coverage of sports events…
