Denver Six Goal Blowup
ST. PAUL, Minn.— Five of the six coaches in the United States Hockey League are holding their breaths and waiting for the explosion—the explosion of Denver’s powerful goal-getting contingent. Probably no place else in professional hockey is there as terrific a collection of goal scorers as old maestro Bill Cook has at Denver. Bill, who was one of the greatest at putting the puck in the net himself when he was starring for the New York Rangers, has five sharpshooters who got 30 or more goals last season. In addition he has another hotshot who was a sensation in the USHL during the 1948-49 campaign. Of course George Agar is Bill’s powerhouse. George got 44 goals last season. New “Punch” Line Sets Nabs Afire Again
MONTREAL, Que.— Led by the efforts of Dick Irvin’s newest “Punch” Line of Cal MacKay, Ken Mosdell and Floyd Curry the Montreal Canadiens have crawled out of the woods into the fresh air. The Flying Frenchman didn’t crash land, they merely developed a sad case of engine trouble. And the best mechanics in the business turned out to be the Toronto Maple Leafs and Chicago Black Hawks. MacKay, Mosdell and Curry were in the driver’s seat all during the fixing operation. The Habs, after a start that set the National League back on its heels went into a dismal tailspin. They failed to win a game in seven tries, managing only two ties. They became the first victims of the Boston Bruins and in most games had more trouble carrying a puck…
