New Clubs, New Faces - USHL Gets “New Look”

ST. PAUL, Minn.— Youth will have its fling in the United States Hockey League this season. The St. Paul and Omaha teams will show the way in the youth movement with the Milwaukee and Tulsa clubs close behind. Kansas City looms as a half-and-half proposition. Denver (last year’s Minneapolis team) will present the fewest new faces to the circuit. The USHL has two new entries — Milwaukee and Denver—and a new prexy in Ron Cook. Two rookie goalies — Dome Worsley of the Saints and Milwaukee’s Marcel Pelletier will be key men for their teams in the title scrap. Both are colorful Young stoppers destined for the big time. Two goalies — Sugar Jim Henry and Jackie McGill — have changed teams. McGill moved from St. Paul to Kansas City and Henry from Kansas…

Curry Explains Floyd Curry, who missed a goal In the Stanley Cup playoffs because he took his eyes off the puck, explained hov he notched the goal that tied Chicago 3-3 in Canadiens’ opener. “Baldy (MacKay) couldn’t see enough of the net, so he passed to me and this time I didn’t take my eyes oft the puck like I did last year.” Curry took the relay and beat goalie Harry Lumley. Knights In Omaha The Knights have three veterans — Sugar Jim Henry, Jake Forbes and Pete Durham — to bolster the defense department. Newcomers include Red Eye Hay, Pat Coburn and Llloyd Hinschberger. Up front two of the most highly rated recruits are Glen “Skov and Earl Reibel. They will work on a line with the veteran Eddie Bruneteau. Jim Uniac, who was the rookie of the year in the USHL season before last, is back. Other returning veterans include Tim O’Grady, Motto McLean, Hartley McLeod and the Giesebrechts — Bert and Bruce.
