Paris Gets 1950-51 World Tournament

BANFF, Alta.— The World’s Hockey Championships for 1951 will be played in Paris, France. Definite dates for the world tourney have not been settled as yet but it is expected that the championships will be played in Paris sometime during the month of January. Canada has not decided on its representatives as yet but the Lethbridge Maple Leafs, winners of the Western Canada Intermediate Championship last season, have expressed a desire to represent Canada at the tourney. If the Lethbridge team does go to the World’s Hockey Championships next year they will be the second Alberta team to wear Canada’s colors in two years. This year’s team, the Edmonton Mercurys, did both themselves and Canada proud as they played marvellous hockey overseas to capture the World’s Championship in London, England. They only lost…

Governors Give 70 Games Schedule Nod For 50’-51’

MONTREAL, Que.— The 33rd annual meeting of the National Hockey League was held at the Windsor Hotel here on May 31 and was run off in close to record time. Without any serious matters to argue over, the N.H.L. Governors swept through the business on the agenda with comparative ease. Clarence Campbell, president of the N.H.L., was in the chair and conducted the meeting with his usual efficient competency. The 70-game schedule, most contentious subejct discussed at last year’s meeting, was unanimously approved for 1950-51 and the season will open in Detroit on October 11. This will be the earliest opening in history. Last year the schedule opened in Detroit on October 12.
