Bill Nabs Sixth Vezina — Blues Hit “Lum”
MONTREAL, Que.— In 1946-47 Maurice Richard won the Hart Trophy when he scored 45 goals and added 26 assists for a total of 71 points, in 60 games. This season Richard’s record is actually better that his ’46-47 record. Although he only scored 43 goals and had 21 assists for 64 points, at one stage of the sesaon he went into a slump whereby he only scored three goals in 19 games. Yet he still managed to break the 40 mark in goals. Had he not hit that slump he would have undoubtedly broken his record of 50 goals in one season. So, game for game, his record this year is better than the one in which he won the Hart Trophy. That season he went through without a really bad slump. As…

Cage Cup Stays On Durnan’s Mantel He Garners $2,000
MONTREAL, Que.— The notably low scoring New York Rangers took a large load off Bill Durnan’s shoulders on the night of Wednesday, March 22 as they pumped seven goals past Cherub Cheeked Harry Lumley Those seven goals more or less handed “Big Bill” his sixth Vezina Trophy in seven years. Not that Durnan didn’t have to work to retain the mug. Indeed Lumley was very much in the battle until the fatal night they met the Rangers. He was just six goals behind Durnan with three games to go. He’d gained six goals on Bil in three games and was playing terrific hockey. After clinching the league championship the Wings set out to win the Hart for Harry. It would have been his first in his career. Neither Duran or Lumley played a…
THE FAN FORUM
FAIR-WEATHER FANS Dear Sir: I would like to assure reader Trevisan that Chicago isn’t the only city blessed (?) with “Fairweather” fans. Boston is crawling with them this year. So the boys are having a bad season—is that any reason to act like fugitives from the “Snake Pit”? With all the booing, rythmic hand clapping, riding the players, up and leave before the game is over, and generally acting like two year olds. Why don’t they stay at home are read a good book, (that is if they can read) there are still a goodly number of us, who, win, lose or draw, who are willing to pay our $3.00 per, to cheer our boys on to the bitter end. Before I get down from my scrap-box, I’d like to know if the…
