MIGHTY TRIO STILL NAMELESS

THE INTERNATIONAL HOCKEY WEEKLY Founded October 1, 1947 Published by Hockey News Company, 608A Sun Life Building. Montreal. Que. Yearly Subscription Price $ 2.50 in Canada — 13.60 in U.S.A. Authorized as second class mall, Post Office Department, Ottawa. Printed In Canada Vol. 2 March 25, 1950 No. 25 It seems strange that, despite their mighty feats of the past two or three seasons—the 1949-50 campaign in particular—the great scoring line of Detroit Red Wings has never been tagged with an appropriate monicker. Lindsay, Howe and Abel go their way nameless. Especially in hockey, a colorful sport with as colorful a glossary of terms as you’ll find in any athletic venture, it’s odd that such an omission hasn’t been corrected long before this. Although, in a way, it may possibly reflect the trend of the times, since in late years…

Sales Boom In Caps’ Cave

Randy Webner (left) and Neal Nollau two hard-working HOCKEY-NEWS renders have doubled their sales at the Indianapolis Coliseum during the last month with the help of an excellent promotion campaign launched by Dick Miller, general manager of the Caps. Because many fans inquired about the possibility of purchasing bright-colored hockey jackets such as the Indianapolis players wear, Miller installed a complete line of such apparel in the Coliseum skate shop. In order to introduce the beautiful, monogrammed, red-white-and-blue jacket with a flourish, Miller then numbered every copy of THE HOCKEY NEWS offered for sale at each game and awarded a hockey jacket to the fan who had purchased the copy of the publication bearing the lucky number as drawn out of a hat at intermission time. Miller’s first step had been to outfit…

Only Seven Blues From ’48 In This Cup Hunt

NEW YORK, N.Y — The New York Rangers, who have staggered into the Stanley Cup playoffs for only the second time in eight years, will present a vastly changed club from the one that represented Gotham two years ago when play-off proceedings get under way next week. Frank Boucher, Blue Shirt manager, has done much shuffling since the 1947-48 series and his efforts have brought many new faces to Gotham. A few have arrived via the trading mart but most have come up from the forms. Of the 28 players, including three goaltenders, who were named by Boucher as eligibles for the playoffs, only seven were on the scene as regulars in the spring of ’48. Five of these veterans are forwards, including the trio of Ranger centers, Edgar Laprade, Don Raleigh and…
