Hershey Scribes Urge Shortened Sked; Overtime

HERSHEY, Pa.— The Hershey Hockey Writers and Broadcasters Association have gone on record as favoring a three-point program for improvement of the American Hockey League. The three points adopted by the scribes and announcers at their final meeting of the current season and forwarded to the league were: 1. A shorter playing season. 2. A system to eliminate tie games; probably sudden death overtime of 10 minutes. 3. A revised officiating staff to include one referee and two linesmen; (referee and one linesman to be appointed by the league and the other linesman local in each city); the league-named officials to be zoned to eliminate unnecessary traveling. Luckless Lions Have Point Champ

CALGARY, Alta.— Bellevue has failed to make the playoffs of the Western Junior Hockey League both years the six-team circuit has operated but the small mining centre in the Crow’s Nest Pass has the distinction of turning out the loop scoring champion both years. Vern Pachal, elusive pivot man of the Crowsnest Pass Lions, picked up four points in Lions’ final game of the season to edge out Guyle Fielder of Lethbridge Native Sons by one point. Pachal snagged three goals and one assist to boost his average to 106 points. Fielder was in the crowd and watched the Bellevue forward catch and overtake him. Heller Has High Hopes For Both Raglan – McKay No Life Of Riley In Pro Game, But They re Tricky INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.— Two Indianapolis rookies, who will be participating in professional hockey playoff games for the first time, figure prominently in Coach Ott Heller’s plans for the American League’s Calder Cup series beginning next Tuesday (March 21). They are Clare (Rags) Raglan, a hard-hitting 187-pound defenseman, and Doug McKay, clever left winger. Both of these youthful regulars are looking forward enthusiastically toward an opportunity to help the Caps win the coveted trophy and they’ve learned the “tricks” of the professional game more rapidly than most rookies.
