Norman (Bud) Poile the much travelled centerman of the Boston Bruins netted himself seven points last week to becomes THE HOCKEY NEWS’ Player-Of-The-Week and ‘Schaefer Award’ Winner. Poile, scored two goals and added five assists to make his total 34. He has now scored 16 goals and 18 assists. On Wednesday, March 1 the Bruins defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-2 and Poile assisted on one goal. The Bruins stretched their winning streak to two games on Saturday, March 4 as they dumped New York 5-1. In this game Poile notched 2 assists. On Sunday, March the Bruins really went on a scoring spree to whip the Chicago Black Hawks 11-4. Poile scored two goals and added a pair of assists. Twas Hard Fight, But Doug Finally Collects No. 200
CHICAGO, III— If you were to ask the Black Hawks’ Doug Bentley, newest member of the National Hockey League’s elite “200 Club”, which of his 200 goals was the hardest to score, the chances are he would grin and reply “That 200th one.” When Doug began the current season (his 10th) he was 14 goals shy of the 200 marks. After 20 games, Doug had chalked up half of his markers and was well on his way to notching his 2nd century when he was jinxed. Thirteen games passed and Doug didn’t garner a single goal. He missed the January 4 game with the Leafs, due to an injury, but returned for the two road games on the January 7-8 weekend. By returning to the lineup too soon, he further aggravated his injury…

High Marks Five shutouts were turned in during the weekend ot February 25-26, which is an all time high for a week. In shutting out San Diego 3-0 Saturday night it marked the fifth shut out of the season for Bud LaMarche which is a league record. Triple Trouble Jim Fairbum, of San Francisco, turned in his second hat trick of the season scoring three goals against Victoria in San Francisco. Stan Maxwell, of Seattle, got his first of the season, also against Victoria, Sunday n Seattle. Playoff Setup, Like Sked, Real Nightmare In ECSHL
OTTAWA, Ont.— What would you think of a hockey team that began its schedule a full seven weeks after the other six entries in the loop, but still finished atop the heap some three months later? Amazing as it may sound, that’s exactly what the Pembroke Lumber Kings did this season in the youthful Eastern Canada Senior Hockey League. Composed of a sprinkling of kids and former pros and bossed by playing coach Cully Simon, former Detroit Red Wing bouncer, the Lumber Kings got off the mark early in December and seldom took time off even to read their press clippings until they captured first place two months later.
