Twas Hard Fight, But Doug Finally Collects No. 200
CHICAGO, III— If you were to ask the Black Hawks’ Doug Bentley, newest member of the National Hockey League’s elite “200 Club”, which of his 200 goals was the hardest to score, the chances are he would grin and reply “That 200th one.” When Doug began the current season (his 10th) he was 14 goals shy of the 200 marks. After 20 games, Doug had chalked up half of his markers and was well on his way to notching his 2nd century when he was jinxed. Thirteen games passed and Doug didn’t garner a single goal. He missed the January 4 game with the Leafs, due to an injury, but returned for the two road games on the January 7-8 weekend. By returning to the lineup too soon, he further aggravated his injury…

Genial Frank Ryan Made Bruin Director—a Bean town Original
BOSTON, Mass— Frank Ryan, that genial Irishman who has been looking after the publicity and public relations of the Boston Bruins ever since the club entered the National Hockey League in 1924, has been named a director of the Bruins. It was Weston’s father, the late Charles F. Adams, founder of the Boston Bruins, who hired Ryan, back in 1924. Ryan has broadcast the Bruins home games right from the start, too. He was one of the pioneer sportscasters in America and besides airing hockey games has broadcast other sports and for a long time had a breezy and entertaining daily sportscast over a Boston…

Gardner Laughed At Me For Two Years — Reardon
MONTREAL, Que.— Kenneth Joseph Reardon, swashbuckling defenseman of the Montreal Canadiens who did some fancy talking about his future plans for Toronto’s Cal Gardner in a recent issue of an international sports publication, now finds himself speechless. The colorful rearguard hasn’t lost his voice, just $1,000—temporarily at least. Reardon was fined the $1,000 when he appeared before President Clarence Campbell last week. He admitted that he told a local sports writer he would see to it that Gardner got 14 stitches if it took him till the last game of his N.H.L. career. Campbell said that the fine is not so much a penalty for the statements made as it is a personal cash bond for his good conduct in the future, and Reardon will be entitled to petition the league for its…
