North Sask. Juniors Show Lots Of Fight
SASKATOON, Sask.- After a touch-and-go battle with the weatherman prior to its opening, the Northern Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League is now well into the second lap of its rugged 52-game schedule. With three of the four entries dependent on natural ice for their hockey, it was a toss-up a matter of days before the Dec. 1 opening, whether old man winter could be on hand for the first face-off at Humboldt. But as it always happens, there was no shortage of cold weather when the opening date rolled around, and now we find the four N.S.J.H.L. clubs,—Prince Albert, Humboldt, Saskatoon, and Flin Flon, Man.—going at it hammer-and-tong — in the race for northern junior laurels. With the exception of Flin Flon, each team has lived up to advance notices. Prince Albert Mintos and…

AMERICAN LEAGUE
Off With A Rush Gordon Haldy of the Indianapolis Capitals has been plagued by injuries all season, with the result he hadn’t scored a goal until recently. However, when he did, he produced three in the game, including the winning tally, and came right back in the next contest with another clincher. Fooled Billy Moe, colorful defense star of Hershey Bears has been a long time favorite of the fans in any city his team visits. Those in Buffalo take a particular liking to him, and in a recent game Hershey played there, the fans hung a sign on the penalty box, “Reserved for Billy Moe”. Bill didn’t draw a penalty all night! Finnigan Broda Just Like Taxes, He’s Here To Stay
TORONTO, Ont— There’s no truth to the rumor that Walter (Turk) Broda is considering changing his name to Finnigan—but it’s not a bad idea, at that, considering his in-again, out-again existence with the slumping Toronto Maple Leafs. Broda, in recent weeks, has been in and out of the Toronto net more often than a small-mouthed black bass—but there’s one thing you can never fault the Turk on and that’s the courage to stay in there and keep punching. He’s a champ in that respect. He’s proved it time after time down through the years. Hockey observers say he’s probably the greatest — “clutch” goalie of all time. Now, at 35, and nearing the end of the trail, the Turk is fighting to retain his prestige like any champion would. Oddly enough, considering his…

Scrappy Rockets Want No Fizzle!
TACOMA, Wash.— Well into his second season at the head of the Tacoma Rockets of the Pacific Coast League is Murray “Muzz’ Patrick, erstwhile New York Rangers’ defenseman and younger son of Lester Patrick, “Mr. Hockey” himself. Tacoma finished second in the five-team Northern Division (P.C.H.L.) last year and fought its way to the section finals before losing to New Westminster Royals. The Rockets hope to improve on their position of last year and playing-coach Patrick thinks he has the personnel to cop the bunting, even though they got off to a slow start this winter. There are 11 holdover players from last season — the goalkeeper, two defensemen and eight forwards — and three newcomers, in addition to Patrick, who has returned to action after a three-year lay-off. STEVENSON IN GOAL Dougie Stevenson, although…
