HALL GIVES CARSE REPRIEVE; Players Fight For Bill
VANCOUVER, B.C.— Bill Carse, coach of the Vancouver Canucks of the Pacific Coast Hockey League, seems to have been given reprieve. It was reported in THE HOCKEY NEWS recently that Owner Coley Hall of the Canucks had given Carse an ultimatum of either having the team in first or second place by December or else he would be fired as coach. Well, the deadline has been passed, the Canucks are not in first or second place and Carse is still masterminding the club. It would appear that either Owner Hall used the “ultimatum” as publicity stunt or else wised up to the fact that coaches of Carse’s calibre are not found on trees and that possibly it mightnot be fair to lay down such an “ultimatum” to any coach. ’Pics Lose Riley, Obtain Canucks
BOSTON, Mass.,— Jackie Kiley, former Dartmouth College and United States Olympic team star, suffered a fractured leg while practicing with Boston Olympics of the Eastern Amateur Hockey League. Riley, a high-scoring wingman, may be lost to the Olympics for the remainder of the season. The Boston club announced after practice It has decided to deviate from its policy of having only players from the United States on the team because of reorganization of the league forced by the withdrawals of Baltimore and Cleveland. The Olympics added three players, Goalie Guy Leclerc and wingers George Murphy and Don Berry, Canadians relased by Baltimore.…

CALGARY, Alta.— From the way the standings in the Western Canada Senior Hockey League have been juggling back and forth it looks like the four-team circuit is in for its biggest year—in fact this appears the “first time since the league started that there isn’t an ugly duckling in the picture. The first season the loop operated, Regina Capitals failed to come up with a club that could provide any opposition for the other three clubs. Then it was Saskatoon Quakers who sat in the cellar spot all year for two consecutive seasons. The early season forecasters favored Edmonton and Saskatoon but Calgary has come up with a surprisingly strong threat.
