TORONTO, Ont.— New artificial ice rinks popping up all over southern Ontario these brisk November evenings… Just recently, Weston officially opened their new plant with an O.H.A. junior “B” double-header… Weston had their new rink ready for late last winter, but they played on natural ice … The artificial ice plant was installed during the past summer … Stouffville, 30 miles northeast of Toronto, broke into the artificial-ice league with their new rink — built this past summer and fall by community effort and funds — officially opened on November 30th … They’ll look after several Toronto Hockey League clubs as well as foster their own senior “B” and junior “B” clubs … The Dixie Arena, a few miles west of the Queen City on the Dundas highway is underway with their…

This week THE HOCKEY NEWS had a letter from a character who was so proud of himself that he wouldn’t sign his name. This is the way the letter started off. I know that you will never print this because your “newspaper” is too pro-Montreal to aggriavate those backstabbing pets grouped together and named Canadiens. The rest of the letter is a ridiculous piece of stupidity, which we just threw in the wastepaper basket. It was signed anonymous. THE HOCKEY NEWS refuses to print any letters that are not signed by the sender. We do not blame any of our readers for getting hot under the collar, and we don’t even mind our paper being called pro-anything. Just sign your name.…

Bad Luck Has Shared Chuck Scherza’s Life

PROVIDENCE, R.I.— They say that a Horseshoe brings luck. The same holds true for a Rabbit’s Foot and if either one of these could help Charles “Chuck” Scherza of the Rhode Island Reds, he would be glad to obtain them—by the carload if necessary. Down through Scherza’s hockey career, he has had more than his share of bad luck on the ice but now, the ill-fate is-haunting Chuck off the ice as well as on. Back on November 10, the Reds were in Indianapolis when Chuck received a long _ distance telephone call from his home up in Brandon, Manitoba. “Chuck”, the voice said, “come right home if you can.
