Player - Of - The - Week
Maurice “Rocket” Richard was undoubtedly the Player Of The Week last week. In tour games he had five goals and one assist. In his last five games the “Rocket” netted no fewer than seven pucks while only adding one assist. He now stands third in the league scoring with 12 goals and one assist for 13 points in 13 games. Quite a feat. Richard’s play so far this season has convinced the stick and puck lawyers around the N.H.L. circuit that he is not, as they think, a wartime hockey player. His past record is proof of that, although his play last season was not up to par. He has yet to go through a season and score less than 20 goals. At 28 years old the “Rocket” has at least four…

Puck And Pigskin Star Must Pick One
MONTREAL, Que.— One night last spring the Montreal Junior Royals, after having won the Memorial Cup, were being tendered a dinner at the Windsor Hotel. Each player was called to the head table in turn to be presented with a gift. As Tommy Manastersky moved along in front of the long table Tommy Gorman, boss of the Ottawa Senators, last seasons’ Allan Cup champs, leaned over to a gentleman sitting beside him and whispered, ‘there’s a darn good hockey player.’ When Gorman says a thing like that about a player it means only one thing. He’d like to have him playing for his club. However it’s not likely that Gorman ever will have likeable Tommy on his club for Frank Selke and Dick Irvin also have plans for the big boy. But regardless…

45 NJHUL Players Come From Prairie Provinces
MONTREAL, Que.— Close to half—45 to be exact—of the 109 players currently campaigning in the National Hockey League first saw the light of day in one of Canada’s three Prairie Provinces. Saskatchewan is the most prolific of the three midwest provinces with 26 native sons performing in the National League. Manitoba is next with 18 and Alberta is third with three. The province of Ontario tops all others in giving birth to N.H.L. stars, as no less than 44 of the players in the National loop today were sired in Ontario. However, Ontario should have the largest representation as it is Canada’s biggest province and has a far greater population than any of the three Prairie Provinces. Quebec is the birth place of 13 National Leaguers. No Maritimers There isn’t one single player in…
