Richard Rocks Gussy To Sleep With Right
MONTREAL, Que.— If “Gusty” Gus Mortson had taken time out to read a report of a game between the Montreal Canadiens and the New York Rangers some years ago, and particularly about an incident between Maurice Richard and one Bob Dill in that game, it is doubtful if he would have tried to mix it with the “Rocket” last week. It was back in 1944, when Richard was having his best pro season, then, just as now, everybody was trying to stop him and Dill, known to have a reputation as a prizefighter, thought he was the man. Cliff Kept Flying Tho’ Leg Broken
ST. LOUIS, Mo.— Centre Cliff Simpson, leading scorer for St. Louis Flyers of the American Hockey League, didn’t know it at the time, but he played in four games with a broken leg. And during that time he scored two goals and was credited with an assist. He was injured Oct. 27 in a game at New Haven, Conn., and thought he had sprained an ankle. He couldn’t understand why the ankle continued to pain him when he removed tape from it after each game. An X-ray examination after Simpson returned to St. Louis recently cleared up the mystery. He has a bone fracture two inches above the ankle. Dr. Robert F. Hyland put the leg in a cast, and Simpson is on crutches. He probably will be out of action for three or four…
